CSRD-DAY; learning together with the market

Hedgehogs François Mahé and Saro Campisano attended CSRD-DAY2, organised by MVO Nederland: a day that brought together over 400 stakeholders involved in the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). The event focused on sharing experiences and addressing common challenges to help organisations achieve CSRD compliance.

One key takeaway: the CSRD is the new sustainability-language we are all learning to speak. A complete new standard for sustainability. And like learning a new language, practise makes master.

This standardised framework unifies sustainability efforts and serves as a powerful tool against greenwashing. By using the same Double Materiality Assessment and reporting on consistent KPIs, organisations can set clear baselines. This enables meaningful comparisons across industries.

A useful tip for navigating CSRD compliance and assessing risks in your value chain: engage with knowledge partners to address complex issues. NGOs, in particular, can provide valuable insights into social and environemental indicators like labor conditions or offer specialized knowledge in sectors (e.g. mining and textile).

In addition to the insightful panel discussions and breakout sessions, it was great to see such a diverse group of attendees—ranging from sustainability consultants and organisations preparing for CSRD compliance, to software providers and government regulators—getting together for this important cause.

Frequently asked questions

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is described as a new, complete standard for sustainability that acts like a new language for the industry. It is a standardised framework designed to unify sustainability efforts and reporting across different organisations.

The CSRD serves as a powerful tool against greenwashing by creating a standardised reporting framework. By requiring organisations to use the same assessment methods, such as the Double Materiality Assessment, and report on consistent KPIs, it establishes clear baselines and enables meaningful comparisons, which increases transparency.

A useful way to navigate complex CSRD compliance issues is to engage with knowledge partners who can help assess risks in your value chain. For example, NGOs can provide valuable insights into specific social and environmental indicators, such as labor conditions or challenges in sectors like mining and textile.

A Double Materiality Assessment is used within the CSRD framework, along with consistent KPIs, to help organisations set clear sustainability baselines. This standardisation is what allows for meaningful and fair comparisons of sustainability performance across different industries.

Knowledge partners, and NGOs in particular, can provide specialised knowledge for assessing risks in your value chain under CSRD. They can offer valuable insights into complex social and environmental topics like labor conditions or provide expert knowledge for specific sectors.
