Challenge
HPE Financial Services (HPEFS) offers financial solutions and IT asset management capabilities. With the largest IT manufacturer-owned refurbishing facilities in the world, they process millions of assets from data center to workplace such as servers, storage, PCs, printers, handheld devices and other regardless of brand.
Clients who send their items to HPEFS to be refurbished can receive a personalized report called the HPE Circular Economy Report (CER). HPEFS came to Hedgehog to help build upon the existing report with a more detailed methodology that reflected the needs of their customers to provide validated data for ESG reporting.
Approach
Hedgehog was responsible for developing the methodology for the calculations for the environmental savings of refurbishing these assets instead of just discarding them and buying new assets. The methodology is based on the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the GHG-protocol.
To support this, we created a product type impact database of almost 50 different product types. HPEFS’s team of developers programmed an impact calculator, which is based on the methodology in combination with the impact database.
Results
HPEFS is now able to offer customers and partners an updated Circular Economy Report with a broader scope than the earlier version. This ability enables HPEFS to meet the needs of customers and provides a foundation for continued advancement as new data becomes available.
