Most people searching for a Coolset alternative want one of three things: a lower price, a narrower tool, or something built for tenders rather than for corporate reporting. Which one you want changes the shortlist completely, so this page sorts the options by that question rather than ranking them one to ten.

What is Coolset actually good at?
Coolset is a broad ESG and compliance platform aimed at European mid-market companies, with particular depth in regulation.
That depth is measurable. Of the 725 English URLs on coolset.com on 27 August 2026, 197 were regulation content, the largest regulation library of any vendor we measured in this market. They have also invested heavily in VSME specifically, with a dedicated hub, an academy and a webinar series.
They are rated 4.7 out of 5 on G2 from 18 reviews, of which 14 are mid-market companies. That is a good rating from a meaningful sample.
They do not publish pricing. We opened their pricing page on 27 August 2026 and found no number.
Why do people look for an alternative?
From what buyers tell us, three reasons come up repeatedly.
The tool is broader than the problem. If you need an organisational carbon footprint for a customer questionnaire, a full ESG and compliance suite is a lot of product to buy and to learn.
Pricing is not visible. You cannot sanity check the budget without a call. To be fair to Coolset, this is the market norm rather than a Coolset quirk: we read eleven competitor pricing pages on 27 August 2026 and exactly one of them, EcoHedge, carried a number. Counting ourselves, two vendors out of twelve publish a price.
The requirement is a tender, not a report. Dutch public tenders run on the CO2-Prestatieladder, and UK public tenders on PPN 006. These are different artefacts from a corporate sustainability report, and not every ESG platform produces them.
What are the real alternatives?
If you want a narrower, cheaper carbon tool
Hedgehog. Organisational carbon accounting with an AI guide through the GHG Protocol, plus human GHG experts reachable in-app. Free account with no sales call, Pro from EUR 1,200 per year. Rated 4.7 from 9 reviews on G2. Covers PPN 006 and the CO2-Prestatieladder as reporting outputs. It is not an ESG suite, and one of our own reviewers says so directly: "If you are looking for a broader ESG data and reporting platform, for example for CSRD, this platform is less complete."
Seedling. Rated 5 out of 5 from 11 reviews, the highest rating here on one of the smallest samples. Their pricing page publishes a Start for Free link but no plan, limit or figure behind it, so we are not calling that a free tier until someone confirms what it gives you. We did not verify a market focus or a feature set on the pages we read.
EcoHedge. UK, with the largest SME content footprint of any competitor we measured, and the one competitor pricing page in eleven that carried a number. Lite is free forever, Express Growth is GBP 990 per year. They publish native Xero, QuickBooks and Sage integration, which is genuinely useful if your emissions data is mostly transactions, and we do not have an equivalent today.
If you want more capability, not less
Greenly. The most visible vendor in the category by a wide margin, on every measure in our census: roughly 2,000 English pages and far more AI citations than anyone else here. Rated 4.7 from 27 reviews. No published pricing.
Watershed. Rated 4.5 from 25 reviews, the second-largest review base here. No published pricing, and no comparison content of their own. We did not verify a stated market segment on the pages we read; buyers we speak to put them in the enterprise conversation, which is our impression rather than something they publish.
Persefoni. Rated 4.8 from 11 reviews. Their pricing page offers Persefoni Pro free and names GHG Metrics Reports as a paid add-on without pricing it, so there is a real free product here even though there is no figure. As with Watershed, we did not verify a market segment or a feature set against their own pages.
If your requirement is a Dutch or UK tender
This is the case where the general shortlist is the wrong shortlist.
For Dutch public work, the question is whether the tool produces what the CO2-Prestatieladder requires at the tier you are certifying to. For UK public work, it is whether it produces a PPN 006 carbon reduction plan in the required format, and whether it handles the twelve-month refresh obligation.
Ask any vendor on this list to show you the actual output document before you buy. A dashboard is not a carbon reduction plan.

Note the review counts honestly: Coolset, Greenly and Watershed have more reviews than Hedgehog does. A higher review count is a better evidence base, and ours is the smallest of the established names here.
When should you stay with Coolset?
Two clear cases.
You need breadth, not depth in carbon. If your obligation spans ESG data, supply chain due diligence and compliance reporting rather than emissions alone, a carbon-only tool will leave gaps that you then fill with spreadsheets. Coolset is built for that breadth.
You are already reporting on VSME with them. Coolset has put real investment into VSME and switching mid-cycle costs you a comparable year-on-year series, which is the thing that makes any of these reports worth having. Unless something is actually broken, finish the cycle first.
What should you do next?
Write down which of the three problems you actually have: cheaper, narrower, or tender-shaped. Then ask two vendors from the matching section for the output document you need, not a demo of the dashboard.
